Christmas Story: God's Perfect Gift

Christmas was when God sent Jesus into the world. He was God's perfect gift to us so he could conquer death for us so that we can live forever. Because of Jesus we will never grow old or die in the new world that God has planned for us. All we have to do is believe. Jesus is our Joy and Hope of an Eternal Destiny!

The Christmas Story: The Immaculate Conception

One night a long time ago, Mary was staring out her window daydreaming of her life with Joseph, her future husband.

All of a sudden, a shining light startled her. An angel of God appeared and spoke to Mary, "I am the angel Gabriel sent by God to tell you that God loves you very much and is very happy with you. He has chosen you to be a mother of boy Jesus. Jesus will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest."

Mary said, " I will be the handmaiden of the Lord, I will yield to His Will; let it be."

And then the angel Gabriel disappeared.

Mary suddenly felt great peace and the Holy Ghost came to visit her.

Later, sometime around December 25, the powers of the Highest overshadowed her and she became pregnant.

Nine months later, in September, Jesus was born in israel in a little town called Bethlehem

Christmas is the celebration of when Jesus Christ the son of God enter the World. He was God gift to the world. Jesus Christ is the savior of all people. Because he was the Son of God he could live a perfect life as a human being without sinning. (sin is when you do something wrong like lying, stealing, wanting what your friend has etc. Because of sin we get sick and grow old and eventually die.)

But Jesus turned that all around by living a perfect life and dying on the cross, and rising from the dead, for the sins of the world. All we have to do now is believe on him and we to will be able to live again when we die just like Jesus did when he died. Until then we just have to believe and God sends his holy spirit to live in us making us better people until we are resurrected in to our new perfect bodies that Jesus has prepared for us.

The videos will be shown in thousands of schools across the country to help educate students about Math-A-Thon. In Cyrus’ video, Math-A-Thon Live, she encourages students to get excited about math and shows students how they use math in their everyday lives and how, even at a young age, they can help other kids. In his video, Brown encourages students to raise both awareness and funds for St. Jude. Each video will highlight the singers’ hits, Cyrus’ "Right Here" and Brown’s "Run It."

Likewise, Brown understands the importance fundraising plays in helping the patients at St. Jude. "I want to show students that math and fundraising are still ‘cool,’" he said.

From a promise of "Show me my way in life and I will build you a shrine" to the fulfillment of his dream, Danny Thomas lived to see his little hospital become a beacon of hope for the catastrophically ill children of the world. The founder of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and ALSAC died on February 6, 1991, just two days after joining patients, parents and employees to celebrate the hospital’s 29th anniversary. He was laid to rest in a family crypt at the Danny Thomas / ALSAC Pavilion on the grounds of the hospital. On July 12, 2000, his wife, Rose Marie, passed away and now lies with her beloved husband in the hospital’s Danny and Rose Marie Thomas Memorial Garden. Today, their children, Marlo, Terre and Tony, carry on their parents’ work and remain a driving force in fulfilling their father’s mission. Danny is gone, but his dream lives on.

International Outreach

Improved therapy dramatically increased survival rates for children with cancer over the past three decades, but worldwide, fewer than 30 percent of children with cancer have access to modern treatment.

The mission of International Outreach is to improve the survival rates of children with catastrophic diseases worldwide, through the transfer of knowledge, technology, and organizational skills.

A global mission

By helping hospitals in developing countries form research ethics committees, St. Jude opens the door to sharing lifesaving knowledge with the world.

Chanukah Games

The Dreidel Game

The dreidel game is played traditionally during Chanukah and is a favorite among Jewish children in Israel and around the world

To play this game one dreidel is used for two or more players. Each player begins with some coins, nuts, sweets or other tokens. Every person then contributes one token to the center.

The first player spins the dreidel following the rule associated with the Hebrew letter which shows on top when the dreidel stops spinning. The second player then takes a turn, and so on. When all the tokens are gone from the center the person with the most tokens wins.

The rules associated with each letter are as follows:
Hey - the spinner takes half the tokens in the center
Shin - the spinner adds a token to the center (sometimes two tokens are added rather than one)
Nun - the spinner does nothing and play passes to the next person
Gimel - the spinner takes all the tokens from the center winning the game

Chanukah is a special time For Children

Chanukah, also known as the "Festival of Lights", is an eight day holiday starting on the 25th night of the Jewish month of Kislev. Chanukah means "Dedication, goes back almost 2,400 years. Chanukah celebrates one of the greatest miracles in Jewish history.

The story of Chanukah

Over two thousand years ago when Judea was ruled by Antiochus, a Syrian king, attempted to assimilate the Jews into Greek culture by commanding them to worship Greek gods while oppressing Jewish culture and religion. A statue of Antiochus was erected in the Jewish temple and the Jews were ordered to bow down before him.

The Jews refused because the Ten Commandments, given to the Jewish people by God, forbid the worship of statues and idols. A small group of Jews called Maccabees, rebelled, risking their lives to prevent the desecration of their Temple. The Maccabees won, but the Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. The Jews repaired the Temple and rededicated it to God by rekindling the sacred Menorah of the temple. But only one small jar of sanctified oil was found, yet lamp stayed miraculously lit for eight days until the Jews could replenish the oil supply.

Like Christmas, Chanukah is a special time for children. Gifts and Chanukah money are exchanged. Some families give a small present on each of the eight nights of Chanukah

Chanukah Games

Children and adults play with a spinning top called a dreidel. This cube-shaped dice has a Hebrew letter on each side. To begin the game, each player has 10-20 objects, often raisins or sweets. Each person puts one object in the middle. Then each person takes a turn at spinning the dreidel. The letter that the dreidel shows when it has finished spinning determines whether they win or lose the stake.

Chanukah Foods

Chanukah is a great time for eating delicious foods. Some dishes have special significance, such as latkes, a kind of potato fritter/ pancakes and donuts ( called Sufganiyot in israel ). This is because they are fried in oil and so Jewish people remember the miracle of the oil lasting eight days in the temple.
